How to create a Solana wallet
Short answer: Install Phantom, Solflare, or Backpack from the official site. Create a new wallet, write the recovery phrase on paper, set a password, then send a small amount of SOL from any exchange to fund it. Setup takes about five minutes.
Step 1: Choose a wallet
- Phantom at phantom.app. Browser extension and mobile app. The most widely supported wallet across Solana DEXs and dApps.
- Solflare at solflare.com. Browser extension, mobile, and web wallet. Strong staking and ledger hardware-wallet integration.
- Backpack at backpack.app. Modern UX with xNFT support, popular with active DeFi users.
Always download from the official URL, not from search ads, to avoid copycat installers.
Step 2: Create a new wallet
Open the wallet and choose Create a new wallet. The wallet generates a 12 or 24 word recovery phrase (also called a seed phrase).
Step 3: Save the recovery phrase offline
This is the single most important step. Write the phrase on paper or stamp it onto a metal backup plate, then store it somewhere physically secure. Never type the phrase into a website, a chatbot, or another wallet app. TheTokenLauncher and every legitimate Solana service will never ask for it.
Step 4: Set a password
The wallet also asks for a password, which is local to the device. It does not back up your funds — only the recovery phrase does — but it does add a layer of protection if someone gets access to your unlocked browser.
Step 5: Fund the wallet with SOL
Copy your wallet address from the app. Buy SOL on an exchange you already use (Coinbase, Kraken, Binance, etc.) and withdraw to that address. Some wallets also offer in-app fiat onramps. Start with a small test send if you are new to crypto.
Step 6: Connect to TheTokenLauncher
You can now open the Solana creator and click Connect Wallet. The wallet asks for permission to share the address. Connecting does not move any funds.
Use your new Solana wallet
Once your wallet is funded with SOL, open the Solana creator and launch your first token in under five minutes.
Open Solana creatorFrequently asked questions
Which Solana wallet should I use?
Phantom is the most widely supported and beginner-friendly. Solflare is the long-running alternative. Backpack is popular with active traders. All three work with TheTokenLauncher.
Are these wallets free?
Yes. The wallet apps and browser extensions are free. You only pay network fees when you send transactions.
Where do I store my recovery phrase?
On paper, in a fireproof safe or split between two physical locations. Never store it in a screenshot, a notes app, or anything connected to the internet.
Can I use the same Solana wallet on phone and desktop?
Yes. Phantom and Solflare let you import the same recovery phrase on both. Treat each device as a separate attack surface.
How do I add SOL to the wallet?
Buy SOL on a regulated exchange and withdraw it to your wallet address. Some wallets also have built-in fiat onramps powered by MoonPay or similar providers.
Is the wallet a custodial account?
No. Phantom, Solflare, and Backpack are self-custody wallets. The recovery phrase is the only key. If you lose it, no one can recover your funds.
